Steve, I cant believe its been a year. But then again, I cant believe your not still here with us.This will be the last time I write something on here. So here goes......I have gotten over the crying stage, the mad stage, the forgiveness stage, and now Im at the, pray your in a peaceful, beautiful, wonderful place stage. I know one thing for sure Steve, you now have ALL your children with you, and it doesnt get any better that that for YOU !! I have never had such a wonderful friend like you in my life Steve, really...(well, maybe Sherry) and I know you liked her. When someone looks up "true friend" in the dictionary, your name pops up. Oh yes, thats the kind of friend you were. And in a life time, you only get one or two of those ! I LOVE YOU STEVE and I will never, never forget you. THANK YOU, for being my friend. One last thing....my friend (Sherry) of course, wanted to go to an Oscar party at a movie theater last night. And last night was the day of.....and the last thing I wanted to do.But, a little something, whispered in my ear, and said.....what would Steve do ?? Well, hell yes, lets go girl. Get dressed, and come on !!! Theres a party waiting, and you know youll have fun . So off I went. And sure enough, we had a great night ! It really sucks ! But when I think about it YOU are the gift. Just knowing you has brought such joy into my life. Thank you for that Steve. My heart goes out to your close friends today. I am glad to have been one of them. But my heart really goes out to your family today. I know you loved each and every one of them. I CAN say that because we spent lots of time in the past talking about them. I told you we would have a laugh today. And we did at my expense but thats o k. You made me feel so special every year on my Birthday, it always meant so much. You were such a pleasure to do things for on your special day because you appreciated everything. I have known Steve when he was the Conference and Pricing Manager for APL . Competently defending the interests of his company yet always willing and with an open mind to listen to the views and arguments of his counterparts (competitor lines) around the table.He treated us all as equal even though he represented one the biggest shipping carriers at that time. He was certainly one of the most respected member at the Conference and Agreement Meetings.
I found Steve as a professional and a person of great integrity so I invited him to join NOL in 1996as the NOL’s Director of Marketing for the USA. Not knowing that in less than a year NOL would merge with APL!
NOL was and is Singapore National Shipping Line.
So I often joked that he is an honorary Singaporean as he has a warm heart for his Singapore friends and co-workers .
We have been good friends since then regularly keeping in touch via email or phone calls.
Steve was a caring and a thoughtful friend.
Both Steve and I went through some tough times in our professional and business life.
And he always did his best to help me when I sought his help.
In the last few years he would update us on his life in Miami and later when he moved to Atlanta.
We would meet for a drink or a meal when he goes to Los Angeles to speak or attend the TPM in the last few years. We were to meet up in early Maart for the 2011 TPM.

Our Friend  / Kelly Gooding (Friend)

It was only through Steve’s close friendship with my partner Randy that I had the fortune of meeting Steve in Atlanta back in 2008. I had heard so much about Steve that I felt like I knew him before we even met. Having said that – I did not realize that Steve would come to play such an important role in our lives and become such a close friend. Steve’s generosity and welcoming personality were just two of Steve’s many amazing characteristics. During the time we all spent together in Atlanta Steve and Buster and Holly became like members of the family. I would come home from a business trip and Randy and Steve would be on our porch watching TV or just cackling about the events of the day. Steve became a big part our lives not because of his history with Randy but because we all belonged together as friends comrades and loved ones. Steve was honest caring hysterically funny vulnerable forthright and most of all – he was always there when you needed a friend. Steve was not only there when you needed him to listen to your problems or be nearby just for the sake of having some company – he was there to be a part of and bring enjoyment to our lives. Steve will be missed today and every day. Our loss is God’s gain and I pray Steve looks down on his life here on earth with joy and satisfaction knowing he made such a big difference in the lives of those around him.

I could not believe the news when I heard Steve had passed. It had been many years since we last saw each. Steve was the most wonderful warm sincere person anyone could meet. I met him when he was at APL and we later worked together at NOL. Steve always treated everyone equally and respectfully he was a gentleman. Steve was also a lot of fun. I had the opportunity to travel with him through Asia and North America and it was great being with him. He had so much energy and always had a smile and a laugh for everyone. When we both lived in the Bay Area we would hang out after conference meetings or during lunch . He was a wonderful colleague and a good friend whom I learned a lot from. As I write this it is hard to think of him not being here. I wish I had gotten to see him more . Steve will be missed by many friends and colleagues. He was a wonderful person and I am blessed to have called him a friend. Close
