This site was created in the memory of our loved one, Steve Horton. He was born at Ford Ord Army Base in Monterey, California on September 14, 1954. He passed away unexpectedly at his home in Atlanta, Georgia on February 28, 2011 at the age of 56. We will remember him forever. Steve was raised in Orinda, California by loving parents, Ray and Helen Horton. He was the big brother to Julie (Peck) and Scott Horton. He often remarked that his parents provided him with a great childhood and what special relationships he had with his brother and sister. He graduated with a B.A. in Spanish from University of California at Davis, cum laude, where he was a proud member of the Theta Xi Fraternity. He also earned a Masters Degree in International Management from the American Graduate School of International Management (Thunderbird) in Glendale, AZ. During his professional career, Steve spent more than 20 years with APL, a global transportation and logistics firm. He held a number of high-level executive positions there before starting his own firm in 2003, Horton Global Strategies. 2010 and 2011 were record years for his firm, which had gained recognition from around the world. In business, Steve was regarded as an industry expert with great integrity that always worked in a team spirit with his customers, co-workers and vendors. So many of his contacts became close personal friends. Hundreds of phone calls and emails have come in expressing sadness regarding his passing. Steve also donated his time to various charitable organizations. He worked for "Hosea Feed the Hungry and Homeless" to deliver meals. He also visited various animal rescue organizations helping to care for dogs and cats. Steve was a friend to so many who will be greatly missed. He had a generous spirit who always treated everyone he encountered with kindness and compassion. He was also a great champion of animals. Two of his greatest loves were his dogs, Buster and Holly. Memorial donations in Steve's name can be made to The Humane Society of the United States (www.hsus.org). Cards can be sent to his parents, Ray and Helen Horton 31 Whitehall Drive Orinda, CA 94563. Steve is survived by his parents, Ray and Helen Horton of Orinda, California; sister Julie Peck and her husband John of Alamo, Ca; brother Scott Horton and his wife Pam of Bellevue, WA; and cherished nephews and nieces Michael, TJ, Lucy, Libby and Maggie. Memorial services were held on April 9, 2011 at Moraga Valley Presbyterian Church in Moraga, CA. The song on this site, "For Good" from the musical "Wicked" is performed by Steve's niece, Lucy Horton. Audio of Steve's memorial service including songs and remembrances can be heard by clicking on the audio and video tab at the top of the page.
